Sydney AI

An Australian embodied-AI company developing Patricia.

The project has grown from research in 2025 into agent software, physical prototypes and a focused commercialisation program.

Current stage

From technical foundations to demonstrations, integration and partner validation.

Our development story

Incorporation marks the next stage, not the beginning.

Work leading to Patricia began with investigation of embodied AI, VLA, reinforcement learning and robot systems. Focus then moved to the agent side: procedures, memory, interaction and controlled action.

Sydney AI Pty Ltd was formed in 2026 to develop, fund and commercialise the resulting Patricia program.

Team and contributors

A focused team with complementary roles.

The team combines technical leadership with testing, communications and specialist support, adding capacity as the roadmap requires it.

RB
Founder and technical lead

Dr Richard Billingsley

Agent systems, AI, robotics, research direction, product architecture and commercialisation.

T
Testing and evaluation

Reliability and usability support

Testing behaviours, documenting results and helping distinguish repeatable performance from one-off demonstrations.

C
Communications and engagement

Public progress and community connection

Supporting social media, demonstrations, stakeholder communication and accessible presentation of the project.

+
Growing network

Specialist contributors and partners

Hardware, research, care-setting, development and commercial expertise added as the roadmap requires it.

Technical leadership

Experience brought into the Patricia program.

The work below belongs to the founder’s earlier career and is not presented as work completed by the newly incorporated company.

Social robotics

RoboCup and human–robot interaction

Research and development work associated with social robotics, language and planning, including the UTS Unleashed 2019 RoboCup@Home championship team.

AI research

Language, planning and computer vision

Academic and applied work across natural-language processing, AI planning, reinforcement learning, vision and agent systems.

Commercial systems

AI used in operating products

Earlier systems for financial information, news analysis, forecasting, e-commerce and data-intensive applications.

Project delivery

Research programs and multidisciplinary work

Experience developing applied research, working with industry and supervising technical contributors.

Education

Mathematics, business and AI

Cambridge mathematics, Stanford Sloan business education and a University of Sydney PhD in artificial intelligence and natural-language processing.

Public contribution

AI policy and publications

Research publications and written evidence on the long-term social and industrial effects of artificial intelligence and robotics.

How we work

Build, test, invite expertise and keep moving.

Evidence before theatre

Demonstrations should reveal the system, not hide it behind editing.

Purpose before novelty

A task matters because it helps someone or supports a viable service.

Open to challenge

Users, workers and specialists should be able to change the design.

Commercial discipline

Social benefit needs a sustainable delivery and support model.
